by Hugo Erfurth
Provenance: Mr. Graetz, Gerd Sander Collection //// Hugo Erfurth (1874 Halle (Saale) - 1948 Gaienhofen) was one of the most important portrait photographers of the twenties. His work should be "true, clear and lifelike" - that is the motto of photographer Hugo Erfurth. It is the incorruptible look at the person that distinguishes his portraits. Numerous famous people of the time modeled this pioneer of modern photography in his Dresden studio. The portraits exude "calm, dignity and sometimes deep thoughtfulness" and the people themselves make the observation "exciting and always attractive." [Dewitz, Bodo von (Hrsg.): Hugo Erfurth. Menschenbild und Prominentenportrait 1902-1936, Köln 1989, S. 6.]. //// Here we see his wife Helene.
